Journey to the heart of the kitchens of Périgord.

Ah, the kitchens of Périgord…
That sacred place where everyone loves to gather, where intoxicating smells, the clatter of pots and pans, and attempts at recipes worthy of Top Chef (or almost) mingle. The kitchen is often the scene of epic battles between disorder and order, between style (or lack thereof) and organized chaos.

Kitchens are a veritable festival of contrasts. You can find everything there!
Impeccable, almost suspiciously clean, where each utensil seems to have its designated place as if it were patiently waiting for its moment of glory (or participating in a tableware exhibition), and where even the fruits and vegetables seem to pose with grace.

There are everyday kitchens, those where joyful disorder reigns, where the magnets on the fridge tell the story of past holidays, where crumbs are the only ones who know the way to the trash, and where every stain on the counter has a story to tell. These kitchens combine authenticity with a certain je ne sais quoi of “lived experience.” There are vintage kitchens, where retro tiles rub shoulders with garish colors, where the accessories seem to have come straight from a flea market, and where I can almost hear the songs my grandmother sang resonating (Aaaaaaallez venir milord, vous assis à ma table.).

Formica, granite, oak, walnut, chipboard... Kitchens from mills, farmhouses, longères, traditional Périgord houses, castles, new houses, renovated or in their original state, apartments of varying sizes. New, renovated, old or downright ruined, it doesn't matter what it's made of or what condition it's in, the important thing is to feel good there. At my house, the kitchen is truly the central room. Even if the living room has good armchairs and a more than comfortable sofa, it's always in the kitchen that friends and family sit down to put the world to rights.

In short, kitchens are a reflection of our lives, our habits, our tastes, and our eccentricities. They are the cradle of memorable moments, shared moments, and sometimes even laughter. So, regardless of the style, cleanliness, or disorder, each kitchen has its own story to tell, and it is through these photos of some 250 kitchens gleaned from the four corners of the Dordogne that I invite you to guess the stories of their owners.
